The free concession of the warehouse number 6 of the Tabacalera Building to ICACÂ has been approved today, June 26, by Tarragona City Council plenary. This is a step forward to the new headquarters of our institute. This relocation will allow us to continue growing as a research, training, and knowledge transfer center. It will also strengthen our connection with the local context, as well as the city area, and the wider region.
Josep Maria Palet, Director of the ICAC, explains on program Mercat d’estiu of Tarragona RĂ dio the relocation project to the Tabacalera and the future of the center.

Backed by a €5.3 million investment from the Government of Catalonia, the project encompasses the drafting of the executive plan, the building refurbishment, and new equipment. The future headquarters, spanning 3,000 m² across four floors, will triple our current space and greatly enhance the working environment for research, education, and outreach activities.
We will build a major research center in classical archaeology next to the new Paleochristian Necropolis park and the MNAT headquarters will be an international benchmark,” according to Josep M. Palet
The new headquarters will be located just a few meters from the Paleochristian Necropolis, one of the city’s most iconic archaeological sites. This proximity is expected to open new opportunities for collaboration and synergies between institutions in research, conservation, and outreach.
According to the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, the relocation of ICAC to the Tabacalera Building plays a very important role in the new centrality being created in the Francolà area.
From the ICAC, we would like to thank the institutional and political support that has lead to this now-final step, as well as the trust placed in our work. We are very excited about this new phase and we will continue to provide updates on the next steps.
