Abstract:

Research on the Iberian habitat completed in the last 30 years, especially thanks to the excavation of an important number of sites, has yielded a large amount of information about domestic activities, functions of spaces and daily life. These data have been partially analysed in several synthesis publications, but the on-going excavations constantly add new elements of study. Detailed and combined analysis of domestic features and artefacts helps to clarify the location of certain activities as well as the relationship between them. This analysis also helps to better define the activities that take place in a domestic environment, whilst other tasks are carried out in spaces with specialized functions therefore proposing a social interpretation of space. However, the comparison between different types of house plans suggests that, although every settlement includes various architectural models, their occupants choose the distribution of activities, without pre-defined patterns.
