Abstract:

La Cantera Honda de Posadas is an intensive quarry of stone in the open air, in pit or well, with an only extractive strategy aimed at achieving cylindrical pieces with practically homogeneous measurements. It is a gonfolita stone quarry in which a cylindrical and vertical extraction is carried out. The quarry generates tubular extraction fronts and has a volume of exploitation of 13.500 m3. This location has been hardly mentioned in the previous bibliography so far and lacks an intensive monographic study about it. In this work we propose a preliminary study of this spectacular enclave of extraction, suggesting as hypothesis its possible link with the elaboration of olive presses destined to supply the numerous mills of the middle course of the Guadalquivir in Roman times.
