Abstract:

The site of Puig Rom is a monument key for understanding the Visigoth period in the Empordà. Archaeological research of this chronological horizon is particularly complex because there where changes in the settlement pattern respect the high Empire, with the emergence of new centers of heterogeneous functions resulting from a moment of political and demographic change. The scarcity of findings related to these new sites, and the complexity of the historical moment, difficult the interpretation of the social processes and that gives more value trying to exhaust the data from Puig Rom. A four-year research project and excavation funded by the Government of Catalonia, with the support of the City of Roses, University Rovira i Virgili and the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, aims to advance the study and prepare the site for musealization.
