Abstract:

The October of 2017 it was recovered, due to a casual finding, followed by an urgent archaeological digging, a monetary assemblage with 76 coins, struck between the beginnings of the 1st century BC and by the end of the 4th century AD. This coin hoard was found in the area known as Pla de la Foia, in the municipality of Alfara de Carles (Tarragona, Catalonia). The coins were found along with a series of archaeological pieces and constructive remains, in a high mountain zone, located at 1200 meters above sea level, in the massif of Els Ports, which makes it a singular assemblage. By the characteristics of the find, its composition, and the condition of the coins, these coins could be considered as hoard, probably buried during the beginnings of the 5th century AD.
