Abstract:

This paper is devoted to Mr. Pau Gilabert Barberà, Ph.D., one of the most qualified and competent personality in classical tradition, on motive of his retirement as professor at the University of Barcelona where he has been teacher and mentor since more than forty years. The purpose of this work is to analyse the novel El resto de la vida, by Ángeles Caso, a recreation of the Orpheus and Eurydice classical myth at the end of the 20th century. This analysis is based on numerous references and citations of Greek and Latin authors included in the novel, as well as the interpretation of the myth. The study is completed with an introduction on the multifaceted character of Orpheus and its influence on Western culture through the Arts.
