Abstract:
Marmora from urban archaeological excavations of the surburban Roman baths undertaken by Gabinete Trama SL during 2001 and 2002 in the Plaza del Castillo in modern Pamplona have now been studied. The macroscopic and archaeometrical analyses led to the identification of not only mar-mora from the main Mediterranean quarries but also from Pyrenean and Hispanic quarries. This study provides a better understanding of map of the use of marmora in Roman Hispania (from the Flavian period to the 3rd century AD) and how this northern city was included in the distribution strategies of the main decorative stones at a provincial, as well as trans-provincial and imperial-wide level.
