Exportación e importación de alimentos en Saguntum: las ánforas romanas del solar de la antigua Morería (Sagunto)
Abstract:
The excavations carried out in 2005 in the Plaza de la Antigua Morería de Sagunto have made it possible to document a significant number of fragments of Roman amphoras. The study of them allows us to verify the export of Saguntine wine during the Early Empire in amphorae of the form Dressel 2-4 (especially, Dressel 2). Likewise, a wide range of imported products has been documented, coming both from Hispania (Layetanian and Tarragona wines, Betic salted) and from other areas of the Roman Empire (Italian, Gallic and eastern Mediterranean Layetanian wine), between the 2nd century BC. to III A.D. The last imports correspond to the 4th century, corresponding to South-Hispanic and African amphoras. This wide range of origins, as well as the exported products, allow us to verify the commercial importance of the port of Saguntum in the late republican and early imperial times, up to the 4th century or the beginning of the 5th century AD.
