Abstract:

The involvement of Josep de C. Serra Ràfols in Badalona’s archaeology over almost half a century is highly paradigmatic of his valuable and extensive contribution to Catalan archaeology. His dedication to Roman Baetulo started in the 1920s with the fi rst issue of the Forma Conventus Tarraconensis, the Baetulo-Blanda, and with the archaeological study of the Roman House on Lladó street, continuing in the years of the Republic with important excavations at Clos de la Torre, the focal point for that site, and culminating in the diffi cult post-war years with his decisive support to safeguard and scientifically explore the archaeological heritage of that Roman city. The important work achieved and future potential of today’s Badalona in archaeological and museum terms would not be possible without the tenacity and dedication of the valuable archaeologist we are paying homage to.
