La ciudad arqueológica en el área catalana ante la irrupción del Islam
Abstract:
We present a brief state of the question over the archaeological reality of the principal urban nucleus in the east of the province of tarraconensis and the end of the Regnum Gothorum. Their exists an unequal level of knowledge about these cities, fruit of the context of actual investigation, but also of historical evolution, differentiated as a consequence of proper geo-political characteristics which possibly caused a modification in hierarchy between the cities. The Visigothic city is seen by us as a centre of civil and religious order in a territorial unity were archaeology identifies vestiges of architecture of power, but as yet is unable to define with precision the inherent domestic processes of all the urban community. We recognise global differences in the process of urban decentralisation in late antiquity but not the parameters of agro-urban occupation of the walled enclosures. For this historical period it is supposed that the demographical redimension of the urban part plus a reduction in economic relations between city and territory are determining factors of the new Visigothic cities, but is ecognised an uncertainty fruit of the archaeological difficulty in studying new constructive models as a more related material culture.
