Abstract:
At the beginning of the 8th century, the ancient regnum gothorum seemed to be fragmented in several political territories, as the coexistence of two different kings (Roderick and Akhila) within the years 710-711 would show. As a consequence of the Islamic conquest of the Iberian Peninsula and the formation of al-Andalus, those regions would suffer different fates: some would come to an agreement with the conquerors, some would be subdued by force; but traditional historiography has seen an exception in Tarragona. The aim of this paper is to present a new hypothesis, according to which madinat Tarrakuna would be part of the Andalusinian State during the 8th century, just as the rest of the Wisigothic sees did.
