Abstract:
This study presents the results of an archaeological research project attempting to identify, by finding the remains of movable items (weapons, coins, etc.), the route followed by the Carthaginian army passing through what is now inland Catalonia, particularly the lower stretch of the River Ebro. The discovery of concentrations of these materials makes it possible to argue for the presence of Hannibal Barca’s troops in this area and the establishment of Punic military camps, probably occupied by mercenaries or indigenous allies.
