Abstract:

The octagonal building of Can Ferrerons, which preserves walls of up to three metres high, was constructed following the techniques characteristic of 4th, 5th and 6th century mansions. The foundations are of permanent formwork, the first aerial section of the walls is rubblework or rammed earth, while from the second course formwork is used. The construction in layers serves to gradually interlink the walls. At some point we find the pseudo opus spicatum technique. The angles are reinforced with large ashlars, as is usual in these types of Late Ancient buildings. It is the last construction example of this important Roman villa, which in the last phases of its life suffered a notable ruralisation and degradation.
