Abstract:

This paper presents the results of a study based on the earliest archaeological elements from Tarraco made on white marbles. The aim is to know the circumstances and motivations surrounding the phenome of importation of marble. Special attention has been paid to the workshops where these elements were produced, as well as their original contexts and functionality. It will also discuss issues related to chronological problems of the inscriptions and sculptures that were examined in this work. The results show that our city was a pioneer centre in the importation of foreign stones.
