Abstract:

The William L. Bryant Foundation is best known on the island of Mallorca for having played a leading role in one of the phases of the archaeological excavation in the city of Pollentia. However, it was also fundamental for the start of excavations at the Iron Age cemeteries of Son Real (Punta dels Fenicis) and Illa dels Porros (Illot dels Porros), located in the central part of the bay of Alcúdia. After several campaigns between 1957 and 1970 directed by Miquel Tarradell, the foundation resumed the thread of research at the two sites between 1993 and 1995, generating an important corpus of data and studies and a fundamental historical interpretation for insular protohistory that has continued to the present day. After its excavation and comprehensive restoration, the necropolis of Son Real suffers a serious threat, given the proximity to the sea and the climate emergency.
