Abstract:
As it has been quite often and rightly pointed out by critics, Histórias falsas (2005) is part of the Estudos Clássicos series, along with Os velhos também querem viver (2014), with which Gonçalo M. Tavares, one of the emerging Portuguese writers most valued in recent years, faces its particular vision and use of classical tradition. In this paper we propose that the fundamental experience of the author for the narrative approach and construction of many of the short pieces that make up the work was the reading of the Lives and doctrines of the most illustrious philosophers by Diogenes Laertius.
