Abstract:

The characterization of the Visigothic episcopal see of Tarragona is currently one of the most complex lines of research. This is because the architectural superimposition of the medieval cathedral over the ancient Late Antique acropolis has significantly affected the preservation of its archaeological remains. In this context, non-invasive surveys are considered an alternative research approach. In this study, we present a hypothesis regarding the location of the baptistery of the Visigothic cathedral, which has not yet been archaeologically verified. We are aware of the “level of consistency” of the proposal, but we have chosen to disseminate the results, as they are considered a useful contribution for future work in the area around the cathedral’s presbytery.
