Rescatando a Baiter: a propósito de la origo de Marco Celio Rufo (Cic. Cael. 5)
Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to reclaim Johan Georg Baiter’s suggestion, who proposed Tusculum (Latium, Italy) as hometown of Marcus Caelius Rufus by emendating a corruption in the Orellian edition of the Ciceronian Pro Caelio. This conjecture, rejected in the later text editions, has been confirmed thanks to a new inscription that allows documenting for the first time in the Latin city a magistrate M. Caelius from the Late Republic.
