Abstract:

In this article we present the new architectural data of the Early Iron Age fortified resi- dence of Sant Jaume d’Alcanar (Catalonia), such as the foundations, as well as a review of the data already published (defense system, internal organization of the site). All these data gradually reveal ideas, such as the fact that a great deal of effort was put into adapting the hill chosen for the buil- ding during the pre-construction design phase. There are strong external influences in this design, as well as in other circumstances of the general planning and the solutions implemented in different parts of the nucleus, which can only come from the Phoenician sphere. Despite this, the design was carried out using the traditional techniques of the area.
