Abstract:

The paper provides a historiographic review of the main architectonic finds from the Visigothic period with special emphasis on the characterisation of their construction technique. Comparison of this archaeological reality enables us to point out the profound differences between private architecture and public architecture. Both realities generated a different architectonic culture, determined by the access to architectonic materials and the capacity to implement technical knowledge inherited from Roman architecture but only available for the architecture of power.
