Abstract:

A new fragmentary honorific tripartite pedestal (Tarraco’s style), made of broccatello from Tortosa (ancient Dertosa), was found close to the forum of Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza). That discovery allows to identify a high magistrate possibly from Uxama (El Burgo de Osma, Soria, ancient Clunia) in the conventual capital, and the use of such exceptional stone as an epigraphic honorific media away from the whereabouts of Dertosa or Tarraco. Although the text is exiguous, the type of monument and the archaeological context suggest that it was made for a public purpose bythe provincial authority, or most likely with permission of the local ordo itself. The origo identified enables us to identify the unknown personality maybe with a magistrate from the Cluniensis sphere which prospered also in the capital of the conventus Caesaraugustanus, as documented for other local magistrates.
