Erosión litoral y participación ciudadana en el Oeste de Francia
Abstract:
In this paper, we present the results of a citizen science project carried out between 2014 and 2015, aimed
at sensitizing the local population about the effects of coastal erosion on the preservation of archaeological
heritage. With the aim of engaging the public in monitoring the erosion process, we launched a Smartphone
application, an intense survey and a theoretical-practical training campaign for experienced volunteers.
This campaign has also benefited from the integration of coastal guards in the project, allowing for a better
monitoring of erosion processes and their impact on cultural heritage in the future. This first campaign has
allowed us to make an assessment of the impact of erosion in the north-western Atlantic coast of France. A
subset of archaeological sites from different periods has subsequently been selected to be the subject of a
specific archaeological monitoring.
